He was 60 years old when he returned to Samos. born Samos 570 - 490 bc, moved from the tyrany of Polycrates (538) to Croton, Southern Italy. fled the rebellion of the Italians against his "order of Pythagoreans" which scattered back to Greece & elsewhere introduced "philosophy" as a way of life, also travelled widely. The big news story in town is the arrest of Pythagoras of Samos. He has been put on trial for his absurd theorem about right triangles.

There is evidence that he was well educated, and learned to read and play the lyre. Pythagoras, one of the most famous and controversial ancient Greek philosophers, lived from ca. 570 to ca. 490 BCE. He spent his early years on the island of Samos, off the coast of modern Turkey. At the age of forty, however, he emigrated to the city of Croton in southern Italy and most of his philosophical activity occurred there.
