We divided patients with Ahlback grade 1 or 2 osteoarthritis into the three groups of single and double injection of PRP and three injections of hyaluronic acid. All the patients were followed-up for 3 mo. We used WOMAC and VAS pain scores to evaluate the clinical outcomes.

2003-08-01 · The Ahlbäck classification of knee osteoarthritis (OA), published in 1968 1, is probably the most quoted classification in the literature, and is still widely used in clinical practice. It is applied in orthopaedics for the follow-up of disease progression 2 , as a classification criterion in clinical trials 3 or epidemiological studies 4 , 5 . Radiographic evidence of osteoarthritis, defined as an Ahlbäck grade of 2 through 5, was found in 42% of the operatively treated knees, with no significant differences among the groups. Grading of joint osteoarthritis by Ahlbäck uses plain postero-anterior weight-bearing radiographs to assess the extent of degenerative disease as joint space narrowing and bone attrition.
